A Touch of Black: HUNTREAY x Chand Baori

A JORO case study featuring HUNTREAY

There is something quietly powerful about placing refined, considered design inside a space that has stood for three centuries. That tension, when handled well, is where the most memorable interiors live.

London-based studio HUNTREAY create flow and connection by shaping how life moves between people and spaces. Their work is characterised by an instinct for contrast and a signature touch: a moment of black in every scheme. Not heavy-handed. Just enough to ground and complete a room.

This bedroom, set within a 300-year-old Cotswolds cottage, is a perfect expression of that approach.

Why Chand Baori?

HUNTREAY needed a fabric that could introduce black with elegance and restraint, perform across sculptural curves and tight upholstery lines, and bring the kind of refined surface interest that pulls an entire scheme together. Our Chand Baori, in black and linen, answered all of it.

Named after the ancient stepwell in Rajasthan, Chand Baori is a woven design with a fine, precise repeat. Intricate without ever competing for attention. Upholstered across the headboard, wrapped around curves and folded into tight corners, the pattern comes alive and becomes part of the form.

Its technical performance impressed too. No visible grinning around tight detailing, crisp lines at every edge, and a softness that keeps the mood from tipping into severity.

The Room Palette

Olive, linen, black, and warm antique tones. Soft voile curtains filter the natural light. Antique Art Deco bedside cabinets bridge the centuries-old architecture with the tailored quality of the furnishings. Chand Baori sits at the heart of it all, anchoring the palette and providing that essential touch of black.
